I am thrilled to announce that Nancy Erley and I are doing our first radio interview together since 2001 during this year's Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival. The topic is Women and the Sea, a passion we share and one that brought us together for six years ((1995-2001) sailing around the world on TETHYS. Our discussion is the appetizer to the main course... a panel with 5 other women during the first Women <3 Water: Offshore Panel at 1545 Saturday) which I will moderate.
Nancy was captain and owner of 2 circumnavigations involving all women crew. For her accomplishments, in 2006, she was awarded the Leadership in Women's Sailing Award by National Women's Sailing Association. Find out more about our circumnavigation here.
I met Nancy during my doctoral research on women sailors and was fortunate to double-hand more than 40,000 miles around the world with Nancy as First Mate, co-instructor, relief skipper during her month's absence each year, chief leaper/climber/hang-over-the-sider on passage, and as "unexpected singlehander" of TETHYS for a wild few days in 1998.
Tune in to KPTZ 91.9 FM... Phil Andrus' show Tossed Salad... at 1400 Port Townsend time (aka Pacific Standard Time or -7 hrs GMT). We'll be live, but it will also be archived.
