Get ready to laugh, to learn, and to thoroughly enjoy an evening of stories from women who've spent part of their lives on the ocean. Stories, poems, songs... you'll hear them all! Here's what the organizers say....

She Tells Sea Tales was started in 2014 as a fundraiser for the Girls’ Boat Project.  It is an evening of story, song, and poetry by seafaring women.  The event was inspired by the Fisher Poet’s Gathering Event. As the Girls’ Boat Project began, we were trying to find ways to host an annual “one hit wonder” fundraising event that would fund the program each year.  We try to raise around 5,000 dollars a year.  We finally made this goal last year and hope to make it again!  Every dollar that we raise goes directly to buying tools and materials for the project and staffing the program.

The GBP was started in 2013 as a joint program between the Wooden Boat School and the Port Townsend School District.  It began as the Felicity Ann Boat Project and was inspired by the first woman who sailed solo across the Atlantic Ocean (documented, that is).  In 2014, the GBP shifted and became a NW Maritime Center program.  They run weekly programs for middle school girls.  The group meets every Wednesday.  There are up to 10 girls in the group and they are currently learning woodworking skills, building a small boat, and in the spring they will start sailing.  They often do an overnight sailing trip in the spring.  They have three awesome instructors:  Kat Murphy,  Lara Gaasland-Tatro, and Chrissy McLean.  The GBP Coordinator is Chrissy McLean.
